Indonesian Experts Observe PFA Procedures at Fuwai Hospital, Highlighting China’s Innovations in Cardiac Electrophysiology

15 Aug 2025

On August 7, 2025, a delegation of electrophysiology (EP) experts from the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita in Indonesia, including Dr. Dicky Armein Hanafy and Dr. Muhadi, along with Ms. Anita from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, visited the Arrhythmia Center at Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The visit aimed to gain in-depth insights into the clinical applications of Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) for complex arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. Dr. Yan Yao, Director of Fuwai Hospital’s Heart Rhythm Center, performed six live PFA procedures and engaged the visiting experts in detailed academic discussions.

During the visit, Dr. Yao introduced Fuwai Hospital’s leading role in arrhythmia care in China and guided the delegation through the cath lab environment and clinical workflow. During the live cases, Dr. Yao utilized APT Medical’s HT Viewer® 3D Mapping System and PFA Catheters for precise, radiation-free mapping and ablation. The AForcePlusTM Force-sensing Focal PFA Catheter enabled efficient creation of linear lesions along the atrial mitral isthmus and roof lines with high precision. Leveraging PFA’s high tissue selectivity and controlled energy delivery, procedures could be safely performed under conscious sedation while minimizing the risk of serious complications traditionally associated with RF ablation, such as atrioesophageal fistula and pulmonary vein stenosis.

Throughout the observation, the Indonesian delegation engaged in comprehensive discussions with Dr. Yao and his team on PFA procedural workflows, technical features of the HT Viewer® 3D Mapping System and PFA catheters, and strategies for addressing intraoperative challenges. The delegation acknowledged the clinical potential of PFA and recognized APT Medical’s contribution to advancing innovative arrhythmia therapies.

The visit exemplifies a successful international academic exchange under the “Belt and Road” medical collaboration framework. Fuwai Hospital’s commitment to openness and knowledge sharing underscores its dedication to advancing innovative arrhythmia treatment, including PFA, on a global scale. During the visit, APT Medical’s HT Viewer® 3D Mapping System and PFA Catheters demonstrated their ability to enhance procedural efficiency, safety, and clinical outcomes. Through this collaboration, APT Medical reaffirms its commitment to supporting hospitals and physicians worldwide, promoting the adoption of advanced arrhythmia therapies, and fostering international cooperation in cardiac electrophysiology.
